Where we work

Six suburbs have a page, each under its own council: Craigieburn (Hume), Point Cook (Wyndham), Reservoir (Darebin), Clyde North (Casey), Seaford (Frankston) and Upwey (Yarra Ranges). Craigieburn's page holds Hume's statement that underpinning needs a building permit and the one ground report written about part of the suburb. Reservoir's holds the heritage precincts and flood overlay schedules of Darebin's planning scheme, and Upwey's holds the Erosion Management Overlay and its exemption for repairs. Seaford's holds a council's asset protection rules and a state mapping layer. Clyde North's holds a council's asset protection list, and Point Cook's quotes a statement that covers all of Wyndham.

Six councils, six suburb pages

Melbourne has no single rule for a dig beside a footing. Each council publishes its own asset protection terms, and they differ: Wyndham says no fees or bonds will be charged, Casey and Yarra Ranges list restumping or underpinning as work that needs no asset protection permit, Frankston ties its permit to excavation, and Hume's own page says underpinning needs a building permit. The pages were read on 22 September 2026. Some carry no date, and Hume's and Darebin's could only be read as archived copies, so a single lot is checked with its council.

Suburbs without a page

Suburbs outside the six are covered on the same terms, among them Altona, Pakenham, Werribee, Berwick, Sunbury and Preston, and an enquiry from any of them is referred on to an independent provider. A page was written where a council's published rules or the state's mapping gave a suburb something to say. Two of the six say plainly that what they hold belongs to the council and not to the suburb, and no suburb has been ruled out.
