Underpinning around Clyde North
Casey's asset protection rule concerns the frontage: kerb, nature strip and footpath. If Council finds damage at final inspection, "whether new or previously unreported, you will be held liable for the repair or cost to repair to Council standards" — stated under the permit application, with no word on whether a permit-free job carries the same liability. A dated photograph of the frontage before any digging answers either way.

No published description of how that unit behaves was found, and a full-text search of the Victorian Planning Authority's 2011 precinct structure plan for Clyde North found no statement on ground conditions. Casey's asset protection permit page lists "Restumping or underpinning of a dwelling or unit" among work that does not require one — a list that "includes, but is not limited to" those types. Its list of work that does need a permit names extensions, additions or alterations to a dwelling and "Structural or civil works"; it does not say how a job pairing underpinning with an extension is treated. Where a permit is needed, the fee is $364 including GST, non-refundable, with a minimum security bond of $1500 (bond amounts may be larger, depending on the work). The page carries no date; these are the figures as read 22 September 2026, not confirmed as the 2026-27 figures. Asset protection is separate from a building permit, which the relevant building surveyor confirms.
